The British Colonel and Lieutenant are camping in the forests of Gorakhpur, trying to capture Wazir Ali, who has become a terror to the British administration. They discuss his bravery, comparing him to Robin Hood, and his ability to slip through their fingers.The climax of the play is highly dramatic. A mysterious horseman arrives at the British camp, demanding cartridges (‘Kartoos’). He speaks to the Colonel with supreme confidence, takes the cartridges, and when asked his name, reveals he is Wazir Ali himself—the very man they are hunting. Stunned by his audacity and bravery, the Colonel lets him go.This play is a thrilling lesson in courage, wit, and patriotism. It showcases the indomitable spirit of Indian resistance against colonial rule. The dialogue is sharp and the pacing is fast, making it an excellent piece for students to understand the dramatic form and the heroic history of India’s struggle for freedom.
