Chapter 6 : Control and Coordination
Chapter 6: Control and Coordination explains how organisms detect changes in their environment and respond efficiently. In animals, this is achieved through the Nervous System and the Endocrine System. The chapter details the structure of the Neuron, the transmission of nerve impulses, and the division of the nervous system (Central and Peripheral). It also explains Reflex Actions and the anatomy of the Human Brain. In plants, coordination is discussed through chemical means (phytohormones like auxins and gibberellins) and tropic movements (phototropism, geotropism). The chapter concludes with a list of major animal hormones and their functions, such as insulin and thyroxin.
