Triangles : Class 10 NCERT Textbook PDF
Geometry and Similarity of Triangles
Moving away from the congruence learned in Class 9, this chapter focuses on the concept of Similarity. Two figures are similar if they have the same shape but not necessarily the same size. The chapter is anchored by the famous Basic Proportionality Theorem (BPT), also known as Thales Theorem, which states that a line drawn parallel to one side of a triangle divides the other two sides in the same ratio.
Students explore the criteria for similarity of triangles: AAA (Angle-Angle-Angle), SSS (Side-Side-Side), and SAS (Side-Angle-Side). The application of these criteria helps in finding unknown dimensions of geometric shapes and proving complex geometric properties. This chapter requires a logical mind and precise step-by-step proof writing, a skill highly rewarded in board examinations.
